Expert Tips for Philippines
Tourist eSIMs from Airalo avoid mandatory SIM registration โ a major convenience advantage over buying locally.
Globe Telecom and Smart have the best coverage in island destinations โ check coverage maps for specific islands (El Nido, Siargao, Palawan).
Palawan and Siargao have reasonable coverage in main towns but the islands are large โ remote beaches will have zero signal.
Metro Manila traffic means internet on-the-go is your lifeline โ mobile data is slow but consistent at 10โ30 Mbps.

Before you buy an eSIM for Philippines
Physical SIM registration is mandatory in the Philippines since April 2022. Tourist eSIMs from global providers work without local registration.
- Check your exact phone model supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Confirm when the plan's validity starts: at purchase, installation or first network connection.
- Match the data allowance and validity to your trip. Check hotspot support, any speed caps and the fair-use policy before choosing an โunlimitedโ plan.
- Confirm coverage with the provider for your actual itinerary in Philippines, not just the arrival airport. Check whether calls and SMS are included or the plan is data-only.
